i have about 150gb of files i need archived. i am going to split these files up into dvd-5 size chunks for burning. my question is ok to choose the "fastest" option when compressing. is this not a recomended setting? will it just not compress as much as it could?

winrar will use a read-ahead method when compressing the data - the more read-ahead-ing its does the slower the process but the better the compression... so if you want it fastest it will have to do the least read-aheading, thus be less compressed...

    make sense?
    eight pence!

sweet, thanks for the explanation. disc space isn't a huge deal to me so the faster the better i guess. if i would have put it on the best method it would have taken like 3 days to compress! f that!
