Im going to be grabbing an R4 however I was wondering if there was a better card out there. Also I was wondering if you can save your game on an R4 like a regular card.
    Thanks in advance

What you should know is NOT to buy an R4.

You want the cadillac, buy a Cyclo.

I also own an EZ V and a G6 Real.

This forum is littered with posts discussing the pros and cons of each cart. Do some homework, you will be surprized.

The only thing I care about really is the ability to play games, and save them lol. Anything else I wouldnt really use. As long as the R4 can do that I'm happy.

Well. The R4 can do it today. Tomorrow is another question.

Cutting to the chase, there will be no more software updates for the R4. Support for future games is questionable.

So told not to buy an R4, still want to buy one. Why bother asking if you dont really want an answer.

R4 is either dead (the original) or a nightmare (the other 11 cards all calling themselves an R4). If you want one of these make sure you know what you are getting as most of the threads here are how to sort out the issues.

So take the advise and look for something else

Most reliable and frequently updated - Cyclods (pay the premium for reliability)

M3 Real - recognised as 2nd place on most forums now with one of the best operating firmwares.

DSTT - loads of fakes around, the real firmware can blow a fake card - although it can now be recovered.

So top Cyclods, Mid - M3 real, Budget DSTT.

Or do what you like and choose one of the 12 R4 - plenty to choose from, each with their own firmware, all with their own issues, some OK some appauling, IF you get it working it will be fine (however do not expect it to play all games)

I agree with kittymat, do not buy an R4, near impossible to find a legite R4, and even if you do, no more updates. Besides, the R4 company got sued by 52 companies. Pricewise and legite-wise, go with M3 real.

Actively updating, 100% rom compatibility, SDHC Cards, good emulator and homebrew compatibility. (haven't found any that don't work, unless you use Sakura Firmware, in which case few are)

If you really want, get an cyclo, although I don't know of any advantages.

    Hope This Helps!

Advantages of a CycloDS (if they apply to you)

1)One of only 3 cards that can talk to a Wii
    2)Fast updates to issues
    3)IMHO, superior software design.

I don't know how the other cards work, but I have a CycloDS and it's great. It's high quality and very easy to use. I paid $49 shipped and that seemed fair to me.

I'd advise against getting an R4 due to the lack of firmware updates. I went with M3 Real Perfect Pack because I wanted GBA functionality and for what I wanted, the price was reasonable. I suppose a Cyclo is the way to go though I haven't tried it. Grab an EZ Flash 3-in-1 as well if you want GBA/RAM expansion and Rumble functionality.

BTW why is it that everyone is still getting an R4 these days? Is it because it's the most well-known and available? It's not like it's the cheapest cart out there.

R4? IMHO ignorance and laziness. They heard someone say R4 and didn't try to look any further.
