I recently bought an R4 card for my DS Lite, but I'm having trouble getting it to work with English firmware. The only way I have got the card to boot to the OS so far is by using the simplified Chinese firmware, v3.04, which is supplied on the CD that comes with the card (though I am confused why this has a totally different version number from the latest online kernel). If I put any other firmware onto the SD card, I either receive a Chinese error message, or it simply hangs on the Loading... screen without making any further progress.

I've tried downloading and using the latest kernel (v1.18) in both English and Chinese, but these don't work either. I've tried using the translation tool too, but also with no positive results. For reference, I bought the card from http://www.r4revolutionds.co.uk/, so I believe that it's an authentic model, but perhaps one of the Chinese versions?

I would be greatly appreciative if someone could help me out with this.

It could be an R4 III - the latest for this one is 3.07, see the website

    http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/

It hosts all the different firmwares, you will see there are now 10 different R4 cards, but as they have sent you 3.04 I think the R4III should be the right one

Thanks so much dude, turns out it was actually a R4 Upgrade, so I nabbed the latest firmware and it works like a charm!
