The original R4 cannot take SDHC cards so a 4gb will not work, however the N5 is not the only card that can take SDHC cards (and it is by no way the best)

look at M3 real, cycloDS, edge rather than the poor R4 clones

dealextreme.com is very good, cheap but takes 3-4 weeks to deliver. Otherwise look for approved suppliers for the card you choose.

Cheap - lots (and I mean LOTS) of fakes about - has a higher chance of blowing DS fuses (rare but more than most flashcarts)When working works OK, slow on upgraded software for new games, several still do not work.

Want the best CycloDS - pay the money

Mid Range - M3 Real, Edge, Supercard

Avoid - Anything with R4 in the title, odballs like Mars U2 etc

I personally have the M3 and with the recently released software Sakura it is getting a reputation for the best of the mid range carts.

Hahaha, another anti-R4 thread! 14 months in, still no problems, still one of the best purchases I've ever made! :)

I'm stuck with the old R4 too, so sure I can't use a 4GB card, but you can fit between 40-50 games, or several movies and tv shows on 2GB. If that's not enough for you then I'd suggest buying some ritalin for your ADD instead of a new card. :D

cturtle - well yes, 14 months ago the R4 was THE card to have, cheap reliable and regular updates.

Unfortunately all software development stopped about 9 months ago, so gradually more and more games will not work with it, there are work arounds for people who already have one (no point in upgrading yet) but if you were buying something new would you really want to buy something that is obsolete. (Toshiba HD-DVD anyone!) or that will not play the new games.

In the meantime, many, and I do mean many cheap clones jumped on the bandwagon and started to call their cards R4 (there are now 12 different R4 cards) so for the great number of noobs out there, the R4 is not the best choice.

Unlike the original most of the R4 clones are very poor, unreliable with little or no support so I try and give the best advise to all, Don't buy anything with R4 in the title unless you are 100% sure of what you are getting.

As to 2GB cards being enough, well they were, but several new games have come out that are 256MB, so leaving enough room for the firmware thats 7 games! Again this is extreme as most games are still 16MB but if you are buying new now, look ahead and choose something that hopefully will last.
