I've been browsing these forums hoping to find a solution, and since nothing has worked I figured I'd ask.

For the record, I have got this thing to work very briefly. I got it today, and when I loaded everything onto the microSD card (a Nexxtech 2GB card) I booted it up just fine. I started playing a game (Mario vs DK 2 March of the Minis) and while I was watching the tutorial stuff it suddenly froze. I turned off the DS and when I turned it on again, I got to the menu but then it froze again here. Since then, I have never gotten it to load the menu. It just keeps staying frozen on the loading screen and nothing ever happens.

I have tried multiple firmware versions, tried formatting the CD card as both FAT16 and FAT 32, and tried blowing in the slot and cleaning the contacts of both the R4 and the SD card. If anyone else has any suggestions I would really really appreciate it, especially after spending about $100 bucks for the R4 and the SD card together.

    Thanks in advance.

    Pwalex,
Do you have the most current firmware? Make sure you extract the folder's contents (4 files two of which are folders) to the root directory of your micro SD card.

Yup I've got version 1.14 and I double-checked everything a few times (and even re-tried everything a few times as well).

From my looking around the internet, it looks like this just might be a faulty chip (not all that surprising given its nature) and it could just be that the SD card doesn't make good contact with the R4 itself...

It could also be the micro SD card you're using. The most compatible SD cards are Kingston, Toshiba and Sandisk. Generally, if the R4 isn't loaded it'll boot up your factory DS menu screen instead.

    Hi,

I'm also having the same problem- except that I haven't managed to get past the 'Loading' screen once!

I've followed the setup instructions in the manual and various online user guides & videos but still no luck.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd be really grateful.

(PS- Using a Sandisk 4gb microSD card)

    huwdo,
Unfortunately the R4 doesn't support SDHC, anything more than 2GB...

I feel your pain. Just FYI, the most compatible micro SD cards for the R4DS are Kingston, Hitachi and Sandisk. There are lots of really economical ones on eBay.
