Hello, I would like to know if Ram would make much of a difference when encoding MPEG, copying DVDs... Is it worth while to buy more ram or is it just the CPU?
Its a combination of things. Firslty, the processor is the most important thing. Then comes the RAM, of which you can never have to much. Then a fast Operating System with a good ahrd drive is essential.
I've tried a couple of benchmarks as I build new computers......... Pentium 4 1.6 Ghz is a lot faster than Celeron 1.8 Ghz. 512 RAM is also a lot faster than 256. 1024 RAM isn't noticably better than 512. Next test will be with a hyperthreading CPU.
Okay upgraded my ram from 256 to 768. Not difference in speed. Of course my coputer did turn on faster and shut down faster. Not worth the extra money. Advice for all of you out there, save money on the ram and buy a better cpu. I think that is where the difference lies.
