No pretending here. I've been listening to those three albums since they came out ('88, '90, '91) and still do to this day.

I honestly don't care for any of the stuff they call rap these days, to me it's like a broken record. The stuff from the late eighties and early nineties was amazing because we'd never heard anything like it before. It certainly existed but NWA brought it to the forefront and allowed the rest of America to see a way of life most of them never knew existed. I was blown away by the power and passion put into the early gansta rap but now it's boring and all sounds the same to me. The spark the early material had is gone and will never be recreated.

A lot of the rap today, they ain't saying nothing. There's a few who's been in the business: Busta Rhymes, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, LL Cool J to name i few who i still love what they put out, and they say something meaningful. But, most of todays stuff, they want to kill someone and always got guns being shot off. That puts me off. Rap ain't what it used to be. Sure, there needs to be changed, but it ain't always for the better. What i would like see happen is some of the old cats come back and show the newer generation how it was and still can be, if incorparated right.

Neph, the spark of the early stuff is still there, alot of this new generation isn't looking. They out to make that quick $$$. Thats why there is no longevity anymore.

    My 2 cents!

I know you were kidding buddy :)

The other day I did hear someone I liked and it was Beanie Man. The stuff I heard had some great beats and was plain old fun to listen to.

The best rapper's are dead, there are some greats about but the best ones are gone...

Still, theres a tonne of great stuff nowaydays, the majority isn't anywhere near trash, I don't know why some people think that :(

It's personal taste rav. The magic of the early gangsta was as much the circumstances and times as it was the music.

To me it's like a new band these days trying to match the Doors or Jimmi Hendrix. Sure they might be able to duplicate the sound of the music but they can't duplicate the whole feel and mood of society during the '60's.

Look at what happened when they tried to redo Woodstock. Both new and old had some of the finest talent of the day playing and both new and old was attended by loads of idealistic youth but there were some glaring and important differences that killed the spirit. The rehash was pathetically commercialized, the idea wasn't new and nothing could live up to the legend of the original. Instead of the magic that happened at the original we had wannabe hippy kids getting pissed off for having to pay $6 for a bottle of water then eventually rioting. The ingredients were similar but the times were different so no magic.

To me the rap scene is grossly commercialized now and it's not nearly as cutting edge as it was. Back then mainstream society categorically rejected gansta but now you can buy "Pimp Juice" in stores and rappers have their own clothing lines.

I'm not trying to that new rap flat ass sucks, I'm just saying it doesn't have the entire "package" that the old gansta had. Does that make any sense?

rav, you're kinda contradicting yourself there mate - by saying that there are hardly any good rappers left, and then saying that the majority of todays music is good....

I don't like any of this crap coming from the likes of T.I, slim thug, so so def and the like. It's all based around catchy sounds. Sure, the raps from those artists sound good, but they don't mean anything. All they talk about is "hoes", "ca$h" and "rims". Yawn Yawn.

@Neph, Yeh I see where your coming from and agree with it.

I'm quite the fan of Tupacs music, stuff like that you cannot re-create, he made some of the best song's I've ever heard and on top of that he had a good heart, tunes that I bump into nowadays I still like what I hear, like I said before, the greatest rapper's are gone, theres plenty of good'uns left, stuff thats being made isn't as good as rapper's of way back where making but I just thought it was harsh people thinking its trash.

@Lethal, Yeh, your right, but you know what I mean.

As for the talk of hoe's etc, it sell's doesn't it??, thats all that matters to the artist of today and as long as you continue to buy it thats what your gonna hear.
Though it doesn't have the meaning behind it like the oldies do, alot of its still good stuff, raps changed alot hasn't it *sigh*.

There are plenty of good rapper's left, its just the fact it's all been done before and is getting boring that wrecks the fun of it, rap's rap, like it or love it, its just music, you like it you like it and if you don't you don't, simple as that really...its a constantly changing thing.
