Yes, and yes. Just start ratDVD, open your .ratdvd file, and click the RAT-to-DVD symbol. It will output the standard DVD format with a VIDEO_TS folder.

You can then burn that VIDEO_TS folder using any DVD burning software. If using Nero, make sure to use the DVD-Video template at startup.

You can also burn .ratdvd files to disc in the ratDVD format itself for backup purposes. You can fit as many as 3 DVDs onto one regular disc using ratDVD, so it's a good back-up program.

AFAIK it's original quality. At least, I can't tell if quality is degraded. Then again, I don't have a very big TV.

I have done what dunker suggested but I get an error "invalid local file signature". Any ideas what is causing this error?

See if you can't get a slightly older version of RatDVD than 0.78.1444. The latest version gives lots of errors. I suspect the developer screwed with it before he went to work on FluxDVD.

Easier said than done. It appears that all links for earlier versions of the program point to the latest version (v0.78.1444). I'll keep looking but I think I'm fighting a loosing battle:(

I too encountered similar problems.... i) errors on using ratdvd for the second time (no problem with the first file used). I'm not too sure whether the problem has anything to do with the installation of ratAttack; ii) earlier versions of ratdvd are not available on the ratdvd website but I did find a number of earlier versions on emule (p2p software). I am downloading three and will test each in turn and will install the one that will prove most reliable.

Dunker, which version have you used successfully?

I would not use any program downloaded from a P2P network. Nothing but viruses, and if you're really unlucky, a zero-day one.

I'll look and see if I have an older version. I don't remember the version number I last used successfully except that the latest one is nothing but trouble. I don't see it on oldversion.com so it may take some time.

Thanks for the warning. On further web searching I came across version 0.77.1506 (http://www.9down.com/story.php?sid=5587). Would this be any better than the bugged version 0.78.1444?

... and what's more, a search on this same site yields several older versions (including the notorious latest one) > (http://www.9down.com/search.php?s=ratdvd&x=0&y=0). The question left for us now is which one to install? Over to you Dunker! Regards

    Oooh, thanks for the find!

Try ratDVD 0.76.1408 or if that doesn't work, 0.6.1122. I did well with the 0.6 versions - as long as you aren't compressing a DVD-9, you should be fine.

Nothing doing not even with version 0.6.1122.

I also got an additional error message... something about an expired Xvid audio decoder (unless the mice (my kids) came out to play whilst the cat (me) was away!) or... the file I am trying to convert is corrupt!

With RatDVD installed, can you view the DVD in, say, Windows Media Player?

Before I started meddling with uninstalling and installing older versions of ratdvd, yes. Then windows failed to run the file. I searched for and intalled a DivX installer (from http://www.divxmovies.com/codec/ [which I believe will work for only the next 15 days]) and the file runs (although the audio keeps on regularly repeating (as in "regularly repeating, regularly repeating, regularly repeating").

First, uninstall that codec. You can get the Divx codec from the K-Lite Full Codec pack. I'd only install Divx, xvid, FFDshow, and maybe Media Player Classic, and that's about it. Set a restore point before installing it though.

    http://www.codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

I do find it odd, however, that RatDVD is dependent on Divx. Are you certain the file you have is a RatDVD file and not a Divx file? Gspot (included with the codec pack, and will be under "Tools" in the K-lite menu) should tell you.

Done... I installed default installation. the ratdvd file is reported as a zip file by G-Spot. Windows Media Player plays video but the sound is gone (just a morse-code-like buzzing noise now!). I changed the file from abc.ratdvd to abc.ratdvd.zip and on unzipping got a number of files with IFO, VSI & XV0 extensions. Again the zipping process itself gave an error at one point though the process seems to proceed to completion unlike the case with the ratdvd software. XV0 files run with Nero Show time but only audio - no video. Help!

Basically, it's demuxed audio and video. The XVO file is the audio component, the VSI the VOB equivalent. Now that you've extracted everything, try re-zipping as per the link below. Hopefully, if your original was corrupted, that'll work out some of the bugs. Let me know what happens.
