Are there burners out there that can record in RAW mode? I remember reading somewhere that the reason why you can't backup BF2 DVD is because it is a RAW mode DVD or something to that affect. I personally have an NEC Burner and I have been pleased with it. In addition what is DVD-RAM. I have been looking at newegg and see that there are a few drives which can write 5x DVD-RAM.

You can check the glossary on this website to understand DVD-RAM.

As for the RAW thing, I think my old DVD writer could do it. I had a Pioneer 107D. (I'm not a 100% sure though.)
