I would pay "Good Money," with a smile on my face, if some smart programmer would write a routine that would Re-Format a DVD Video to change (Wide Screen) to (Full Screen) someplace during the copy process.

Some of my favorite movies are not available in anything but that Super Skinny (Wide Screen) format, and it drives my nuts trying to watch a picture that is about 9 inches tall on a TV Set with a 42 inch screen. Who ever sold the viewing public on [bold] ANY [/bold] of the Wide Screen formats needs to be taken out and shot; and not necessarily at sunset. I don't even like the way Wide Screen displays on those really High Priced Wide Screen TVs....

Anyway, a program which would convert from one format to another would sure be nice. My Computer's DVD Player Program will do it, and it must take some sort of "re-coding" on the fly to make it happen, so surely there is someone out there smart enough to write the code that I need..

Folks, keep your eyes open for such a program and let me know if you find one...

Converting Widescreen to Fullscreen without Stretching or Shrinking the Image will require you to Crop off a Good Portion of the sides of the screen so you can resize the Vertical resolution to Fullscreen....

Have you ever watched Movies on Broadcast TV that Looked like the Sides of the Frame were cut off?? I have even seen some Movies where the Credits didn"t even fit on the Screen Fully and this is From converting Widescreen to Fullscreen.....

    Good luck

Believe it or not, I could not care less about what's happening on the sides of the screen. If it was that important, it would be in the middle with the rest of the primary focus. And, re-formating while retaining the aspect ratio can be done without much loss of side picture. My Cyberlink DVD Player Program does a wonderful job of converting any of the formats for display in standard format.

Thanks Marcus, I'll give that a try and see what it comes up with..

Your Software DVD Player has no problem Displaying the Video in Full screen because it is Not Limited by the Output display Resolution Meaning on your Monitor it can Display the Video anyways it wishes because it doesn"t have to make the Video fit on a Screen that is Limited in it"s Lines of Resolution and aspect ratio Like your TV set is....

Depending on your Monitors display resolution it can display any ammount of Lines of Resolution,Pixels and aspect ratio so the Image looks correct, but your TV set is Limited by 525 lines of Resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio ......

I can tell you how to use "Tmpgenc Pluss" to encode the Widescreen Movie into a Fullscreen Movie but I will first have to know the Resolution of the Source File without the Letterboxing.....

If this is a Retail Widescreen DVD then you will have to rip the DVD to your HD First and then use something like "DVD2AVI"s" Crop feature to crop off the Borders on the Top and Bottom to find out what it"s resolution is after the Borders are Cropped off...

After you know the Video resolution after cropping off the Borders Let me Know what it is and then I will tell you how to set up Tmpgenc to encode this Movie to a Fullscreen Format without Stretching or squishing the Image so it look correct on your Standard DVD Set.....

    Cheers

Interesting about the monitor display, because it also looks perfect on my TV using the S-Video output from my Video Out card. I often watch DVDs on my TV using my computer as a player because it CAN give me full screen using the S-Video Out. So, perhaps the Program is doing MORE than you think it's doing. Or, the combination of the DVD Player Program and my Video Output card compinsate for the shortcommings of the scaning system on the TV.

Anyway, I really don't want a program that requires two or three conversions to get the job done. I want an "Idiot Proof" program that will just look at the Wide Screen format, determine the best conversion method, and DO IT.. One Simple Step, and I am SURE that some smart programmer can handle that job..
