" Most important: Don't mix different brands. Tapes are covered with some kind of lubricant. Some of the lubricant will stick to the reading/writing head. If you use another brand of tape with different lubricant there can happen chemical reactions between lubricants resulting in the head getting dirty quickly, leading to sound/picture problems + shorter life of the head (using cleaning tapes damages the head to a certain degree). "

I saw this in another thread. This sounds like a myth to me. Does anyone have any documentation or personal experience of this effect?

Also, are there any problems with re-using miniDV tapes? I have seen other mentions of problems with ghosting of images and audio from previous recordings into the new recording. Is this not an issue?

    Thanks.

Where did you see this Dhalgren.
In the recent past I had problems with my camera head bgfetting dirty very quickly and I happened to use a different brand just before that, so it would support this statement....
