I have searched the net and come up with a few things and have read up on the xbox and evolution x and xbmc as much as possible, but I am still confused. I also want to let it be known that it is the first xbox I have ever owned to please bear with me.

So I got this Xbox, has 120 GB HD and Evolution X.

I am trying to make it a Media Center that can hold my movies and TV series on its internal HD. I realize that you’re able to stream over the net with shared folders, but where the xbox is going it’s not going to be connected to a LAN. Right now I have it in my room hooked up to the router and the TV so I can had add media to it.

So the Evolution X is just the main screen? When I go to Apps it lists a few different "dashboards" I guess, but these are not the screens that start each time? Why is that? Also will any media that is added to the xbox show up in all of the "dashboards"? When I look at what is on it, it lists a few different drives...doesn't it just have one HD? I would also like to delete some of the games on it how do I do that? I also have found that while playing a game I need to restart the xbox each time to get back to a "main" screen...is that the only way?

Right now I am having problems connecting to my computer and FlashFXP (FTP)...I have followed a very nice .pfd guide and still nothing...any help there?
I have tried to follow these:
    http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.p...&f=23&t=183856

.pdf with pictures and guide: http://www.mediafire.com/?x9lylj2ddi3

Do I need a static IP or no?

I guess I am just having trouble making my way though all of the different screens and menus...any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Mike

Ok first off if you want to simplify the xbox mod.

i recommend slayers Evox disk and no i cannot tell you where to get it nor do i know where to get it now.

    don't ask.

second most dashboards come on a iso disk for modded consoles and you just burn the disk and run it no need to ftp your box.

if you try to connect your xbox with your computer using a router! set it to dhcp and not to static. you can find this option in the system settings of evox. be sure to safe the changes and reboot your xbox!!!! then it will automatically give you an ip address on the range that your router support. after a reboot write down the ip address of your xbox (will be in the 192.168.xxx.xxx range). password and username to ftp in are both xbox. open any ftp program, ftp the the above address and use xbox (pass/user). for this setup you can (must?) use a straight utp cable.

if you try to connect your xbox with your computer directly, you must use a crossover/crosswired utp cable. a straight utp cable will not work. in this setup you have to use the static ip, but you also have to use a static ip on your computer's network card. use the tutorial you mentioned to change the setting (if you follow it to exactly, it will work).

using a router is the easiest (anyone use/has a router right?)!

download any xbox mediacenter edition (google it, xbox media center) and you will find the download link. it is also in the download section, at least the link). extract it on your computer(the rar file), and ftp all the files it into the e:/apps folder on your xbox. (so you get e:/apps/xbmc ==> in filder xbmc you will find a lot of files and folders and a default.xbe file!!!).
use xbmc as a dashboard to work from, you can use it to play media and play games.

don't bother with trying to make xbmc your default dash, way to much hassle. just let your xbox boot evolution x (EVOX). from there on, boot xbmc as an app and your good to go. it is only one additional step that you have to do.

if you do not have a hard modded xbox, do not bother with the slayers disc (get it from any torrent site, find slayer 2.7). since you cannot use it to rebuild any c drive if you use a softmod (doing so, will kill the sofmod as the slayer disc warns). you can only use the slayer disc to copy over apps (that are on the cd, like xbmc and a buch of other stuff) to the e drive and backup the eeprom. but you can do both by just doing it yourself (you can backup your eeprom using evox) and you can download xbmc yourself. if you really want a good apps disc, try the aid 4.X dvd. that has loads of stuff on it (also torrent sites). is around 4.3 gig
