Gtrman or anyone else, hope you can help.

I've had my ILO for nearly a year with the hacked firmware and have had zero problems ... until lately. After I edit out TV commercials from a recorded TV movie, and finalize it, it plays back with a problem at every deleted commercial spot.

Every place I deleted a commercial, this is what happens: It plays a couple of frames extremely slow, then speeds up to normal, and then it plays normally a couple of seconds or so, then it repeats the scene it just played and goes normally until the next commercial edit.

This is very odd since it has been perfect up until now. If I don't edit any commercials, it all plays back perfectly. I have never defragged the machine and have recorded about 35 dvds so far.

When should a defrag be done and do you think that would cause the problem? If not, have any ideas?
    Thanks.

Do you clean your recorder every 10 hours of use

    NO

Have a ilo RHD04 over a yesr old
Another ilo RHD04 That I have had 2 mos but I believe it is 1 yr old
A Cyberhome 1200 [same as ilo 05 without DV input] about 3 mos old
An Apex 3201 over 4 years old

All are used a little over avarage except the older ilo 04 it is used very heavily
All work perfect None have ever been cleaned,if you are refering to the laser.
For no specific reason I have blown them out with canned air on occasion but not often

actualy you suppose too clean the laser every ten hours and if I am not mistaken can of air is the worst thing you could use.

I didnt read it all i thought you were editing on a rw disk but if you are editing on a harddrive thats hasnt been defraged well I don't know because I heard bad things about the ones with the hard drive in it.

All I can say try recording straight too a rw disk and then edit the comercials and trust m you can do this if you record in vr mode I do it wit tv shows its awsome.

If your not famililiar with this method then read your manual if you still have it I had a ILO it was one of the first ones I had but you couldnt hook it up straight through the cable connecters So I got the next one same problem actually ilo was my second my first was a sanyo and it was good but didnt find out till my last one the emerson dual deck vcr dvd recorder that I could edit the commercials on the disk and been using the r disk for hbo such movies and anything with commercials that I record is usally a tv show and taking out the commercials is way easier.

So I would suggest you defrag reformat and clean your lense plus check the fan for dirt.

The ilo is a good machine and it is not alone in this advice
If there is anything on thr HDD you value DO NOT DEFRAG the HDD.

Thanks for all your help, guys. You've given me some good tips, so I'll try them this weekend. I'll let you know if any solved my problem with the editing.
