can anybody help me with the problem I get when I record from my record deck to the computer. I have connected the player direct to the sound card but the volume is very low the comps volume is at its highest level but its still tooquiet when i record the sound has slight distortion.
your problem is that the input on your sound card accepts LINE LEVEL inputs (usually ~ 1 volt in amplitude). But the output from devices such as phonographs and micrphones are MUCH lower than line level. (usually around .001 volts). If you have a receiver/amplifier that you normally connect to your turntable, check and see if it has record out RCA outputs on the back. If so, then connect your turntable to the receiver, then connect the record outs from the receiver to the input on your computer. BE SURE TO GROUND YOUR TURNTABLE! unless you want a nice 60 Hz hum in there as well. If you don't have a receiver, you can pick up a phono to line converter at most electronic stores (like Frys and Radio Shack) for under $30. Or you could even buy a cheap used DJ mixer, that would do the trick as well.
