Hi i am running windows xp i recently had a problem emptying the recycle bin the problem probably was a file name that was to long instead of renaming the file i deleted it some other way i cant remember how, now when i empty the bin i get the message "cannot delete" said file "the file name you specified is not valid or to long specify a new file name" it also says i have 44 files to delete even though nothing is displayed in the recycle bin window. I cannot find this file anywhere what can i do to fix the problem

when i said recently i meant a couple of months, it didn't seam important at the time, typical lazy thing that i do, i suppose its to late now to use system restore.

System Restore was created for issues just like this. Rolling back the Registry erases mistakes made as if they never happened. On rare occassions were System Restore does not work, you may need to perform a System Recovery. I think with your recycle bin situation a restore should do the trick. Give it a shot. Here's a guide. Note: Restore to a point before the problem occured. http://www.windowsxphome.windowsreinstall.com/howto/lauchsystemrestore.htm
    Good luck!
