Hi guys- I had been using my headphone jack to hook up my laptop to Logitech speaker system via tosslink cable. Just the other day I noticed that there is no longer a red light coming out of my headphone jack (asus n53s laptop), I initially thought I had a break/damage to the digital cable so I bought a new one but still there is no red light from jack. Can anyone suggest what I should do ? Do I need a new sound card ? The headphone jack itself does work when I plug in actual headphones or rca wires..but I do not get the digital connection. rgrds
ddp- Thanks for getting back to me...yes infact there is one "unknown device" inside of folder "other device". rgrds
which 1 in this link is yours http://support.asus.com/download/ModelList.aspx?SLanguage=en&keyword=n53s&type=1 & what windows version.
its none of the ones in your link..mine is simply N53S..no other letters after that. Here is my exact laptop http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/laptops/1284340/asus-n53s Windows version is Win7
what does it show for soundcard in device manager. look on bottomside of laptop to see if model make is there.
try re-installing the realtek hd audio driver to see if correct problem. it might also be your onboard video has to be reloaded as my amd videocard in my tower loads an amd hd audio device besides the realtek hd audio device. click on High Definition Audio Codecs (Software) in this link http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
So do I need to first un-install realtek driver in device manager before in update ? Sorry, not done it before..
just reinstalled driver for Realtek...still no red light from Jack. Does anyone know what I need to do with the issue of "unknown device" inside of folder "other device" ? I tried googling for " no red light from headphone jack" and its very strange that there is almost no mention of this problem..except for similar issues with Mac Books .
no because quite frankly I am not about to ship my laptop and pay their "expert" fees to repair..if I was prepared to do that I would not be asking for help on this site..my laptop is out of warranty so it wont help contacting asus unless I want to be their fees obviously.
i did not say "contact" but said "check", 2 different things. check their faq forum to see if others have\had your problem & what resolution if any there is to that problem. what make is the onboard video.
