Hey guys, I got my laptop december 25, 2005. I loved it! It was so fast for like the first couple of months I had it! Then, it was like a chain reaction. 1st. My DVD ROM broke. I thought It was a software, driver error. It wouldnt recognise it in My computer or Device manager. So, I proceeded to disconnect it and reconnect it after cleaning it. That didnt work. So, I deleted the upper and lower filters for it in the registry (have fixed a recognition problem on other computers this way) but that didnt work. I called support and tried everything. NO luck. I eventually just took it out, but I had disassemled it so no replacment. Next was one night i was using it like regular. I always use care with it. I had set it down on my desk and switched user and when I came back the screen was messed up. It was like a whole shed load of white and blue lines on half the screen. And it looked like a liquid going through it. I rebooted and the same thing. I took it to an authorized toshiba dealer and they told me I had cracked it internally. So i was like what the hell. As of now it is hooked up to a CRT monitor. Then i was like okay this sucks. Im on a site the next day and It crashed (the blue screen of death) I reboot and do a virus scan and system restore and run registry mechanic and delete some crap. Everytime I run it normal it crashes. (running in safe mode with networking as I type) Then, I go to charge the ipod on the middle usb. It wont recognize it or charge it. Luckily, I replaced the port and its okay now. So, I figure I need a new drive and to reformat. I call toshiba and they tell me a new screen is $600. The laptop itself was $1100 on sale for $750 so I was like to hell with that. So, It didnt come with a windows XP disk to reformat and I have no drive. I uploaded my XP disk I got with my dell to my dell pc and send it to my laptop through AIM. When I run it, it tells me the disk is an older version that whats on the laptop. So, it tells me that I cant continue and gives me no instruction on what to do. So, how should I go about reformatting? Will this fix my problem? Any help will be appreciated!!
foul language edited out. i would download a free linux ISO, burn it to CD and run that to use it's partitioning program to wipe the hard disk (i'm assuming you don't have a floppy drive for laptop you see)
