I want to know if there's a way you can reformat a CD-RW to cause it to behave as a CD-R in older CD players?

    you can't turn a cd-rw into a cd-r. they;re 2 completely different discs. just buy a cd-r if you want one.

If you record a CD-RW just as you would a CD-R, it will have the same logical structure as an audio disc. It still won't play in older players because the reflectivity is well below that of CDs or CD-Rs, and the signal won't be strong enough for the player to read.
