I'm hoping someone can help me. I've got 2 boys and myseld who are addicted to HALO2 on Xbox. They have created alot of different characters and have been playing the game for about a year. I bought the game refurbished and it was working fine. Out of the blue, the HDD started clicking and the kids HALO2 saved games wouldn't load. The screen would say 75%..85%...98% and then crap out. I've reparied my PS2 before so I opend the Xbox concole and tries to clean the dust from the inside and when I put it back together it loaded their game one time but then got stuck. Their out of there minds and the stores only sell HDD's for the new 360. Ihave some PC HDD (Seagates, West Digital) but I don't know if I can just plug a new one in and let them start over or if it needs to be formatted or something. If anyone can point me in the right direction about fixing this HDD or where I can get a working swap please let me know. Thanks.

    is the xbox modded?
usually when the HD makes large clicking sounds that means its going out or almost gone....the only way to replace the HD is to have a modded console....

I'm not sure what modded means. I am bidding on a new HD on eBay hoping I can just swap it out. What does modded mean? Thanks for the reply.

A modded xbox is an xbox that is modified by a game's linux exploit or that has its BIOS flashed by installing a modchip into the motherboard of an xbox. The xbox then runs on a different dasboard once it has been modded. It is generally easy to softmod an xbox and you must softmod an xbox to replace the hardrive.
