So I've been doing a great deal of reading on the earth's magnetic field and about the possibility of a rapid magnetic polar reversal which has happened in the past and it would seem that December 21st of 2012 will tell the tale.. Don't call me paranoid, I'm not.. But I'm not naive either. Which brings me to my question..

Is Flash memory on usb sticks or any type of flash memory unaffected by the earth's magnetic influence or any powerful magnetic shock?? I know that hard drives would likely be wiped out in the event that the north and south poles of the earth would swap..

My other bet for safe storage is obviously optical storage, CD's, DVD's and Blu-Ray discs.. tho burning discs regularly is a hassle for me, but may be a necessary precaution to take.

But anyhow, friend of mine told me to just backup everything to flash.. but is it really safe?? What about those expensive Solid state disk drives?

Has anyone else given this subject some thought??

    Thanks,

    Xeriak

don't worry about it as most of us will probably not be around. hard drives won't be wiped by the reversal of the earth's poles.
