I have an Xbox 1.0 that I softmodded. I was installing a larger hard drive using Autoinstaller Deluxe, but by mistake I hit the "remove softmod" option. Now when I boot up, I get an service error screen without an error code number. If I put the older hard drive in it, the same thing happens. Can anybody help?
I am assuming you get error 16 or 21, but it doesn't show? This typically happens when the original Xbox Dash is deleted (from what I read, I'm no pro). Try to cold boot any game, if it works, but the text is all in symbols and looks alien, then your dash is gone. You can play any game coldbooted, but subtitles and anything written in text (not images) is scripted to use the xbox dash files to generate he letters. I think I can properly suggest using XboxHDM to factory restore (rebuild the HD) your Xbox, which will replace the missing dash files. When you turn your Xbox on, it is like the first time you powered it on, a "virgin" Xbox if you will. Think you may already know that. If your Xbox is still FTPable, maybe someone else can help you out there. From what I have read though, a HD with a softmod installed can be a pain in the ass to troubleshoot. Most people just rebuild the HD and reinstall the mod. Since you were upgrading a HD, you should say how far you got, in terms of locking the HD, getting the files on there, eeprom etc. Someone else might be able to help if you are a little more specific.
removing the softmod removes the exploit file.. which is the fonts file. a live update from a late series disk as above should cure that easily. The cold booted game disk contains all the data needed.. so try that first... also cold booting the exploit game should allow the exploit to be run again.. you did leave the saves alone and not play the game didn't you?? I know all about this because I deliberately made a lot of different error 16 and 21 machines for testing recovery/repair options many years ago as part of my llamma work. Error 16 is any missing/corrupt files in the dash.. error21 is related to the clock settings or files.. no error usually means it's a 1.0 and it should show error 07 - fault hdd .. but they didn't put that in for some reason .. the error screens are generated from the actual mobo bios not the hdd.. you get error 07 with NO hdd installed at all.. which proves that the error reporting has nothing to do with the dash files XD
