ok i know people make renders and they probably get some off the internet. but if they get it off sites, where do those sites get it from?? did they make it by themselves? if not, how? i would really like to know so i can make my original ones
I'm guessing you mean CGI(Computer Generated Image) renderings, no? If so there's a whole bunch of tools for CG rendering including: 3D Studio Max, Maya, Vue, Bryce, Rhino and even Poser. Alot of these are extremely expensive as they can be used from amateurs to professionals. I've personally used 3DSMAX, Poser and Bryce. If you can get a hold of any CG rendering/editing program you'd be more then pleased with it. You can also do photoedting and filtering via Photoshop, Paintshop Pro and GIMP to get some interesting looking effects. These programs are often used to do final touches on CG Renderings. Oh and I use MSPAINT for making sprites like in my sig. >_>
oh, yeah computer generated. so they use those 3d rendering programs, i know some of them. but then how do they make it so detailed, like for instace the x wing in my sig that i got off the internet? do u have to spend hours on it? and put every detail on it? and for wallpapers that people make, they use programs like adobe photoshop, right? do they fiddle around for hours as well to get the weird cool looking backgrounds, too? and lastly, for instance if u wanted to do a wallpaper and it had a character on it from a video game, how do people get those in terms of like not getting from internet sites as well, like the 3d renders? i know it might be hard to understsand, sorry
Yeah, what you've said is pretty much correct. CG Rendering from scratch is a long process, though as with anything, as an artist gets more skilled in a certain medium it'll take less and less time. But yes, even for talented artists it can take weeks+ to put out a highly detailed high-poly count render. Think of CG modeling as a form of sculpting. You start with basic grey shapes of virtual clay and you alter them into a form that resembles whatever it is your aiming towards. Then most of the details lie in good texturing, the clothing if you will, that is put over the model. Everything from the color to the nicks and scratches are textured, a good texture will make a model look more realistic and detailed. Often they are created in a program like Photoshop, however textures can also be found on the internet. But as with real clothing, textures are specific to the type/shape of a model, so most need to be tailor made. Also the time it takes for a computer to actually render the image of what you've worked on can take hours to finish. This depends on various factors such as computer specifications, complexity of lighting, number/size of a model/texture and complexity of the rendering process used to procure the image. As for wallpapers: Photoshop and all other image editing software may be daunting at first, but after awhile you can make neat looking images with ease and speed. As for the characters, most people will usually take a picture of the character off the internet, wipe whatever the original background is so they're left with just the character and transplant them on their wallpaper. Though it's not outta reason that someone could make their own version of a character in a CG program and use it.
if they tried to make a character in CG program and use it as wallpaper, they can make it look like, really really close to the real character? its possible? because i am probably under the impression that when u do that, it looks like uneven and stuff, like 'poly' like.
Depends on time and talent. But yes, it's completely possible to render characters on your own that look just as good, if not better then the original. I've personally created my own models based off of Cloud and Tifa from FFVII and Chris Redfield from the RE series. They all looked just as good, if not better then the pre-rendered FMV cutscenes from each respective games. Once I go home this weekend I'll see if I can dig up my portfolio. With 3DStudioMax, Maya or any high-end software, a person can create videos that rival current videogame cutscenes and even some CG rendered movies of today. It depends on how much time a person is willing to spend on a project and how talented they are.
