Does anyone know if you can replace the hard drive on my U2 20 gig ipod? I've done the factory reset several times because it appears to be corrupt. It tries to download then gets stuck on stupid. I would hate to trash it, and yes it's out of warranty. Thanks
Sounds like it would be a risky operation to put your iPod through, I hope you know what you're doing before you break something that is unfixable
Thak you I did a google search and found a person who took his apart with lots of pictures. Needles to say someone said to slap the back of the ipod and it would work again, lo and behold it did.(for Now) Thank you,
I have taken my iPod apart several times, and friends iPods the thing you need to open it with is an old credit card, put it in the crack and util you here a crack then move the card around the whole iPod and it is open. You will here lots of popping sounds
I'd be way too scared to risk opening my iPod. I wouldn't even think of risking it on a friends iPod.
Opening an iPod is pretty straight foward as is replacing the hardrive you'll have to try it some time andersg
O, I have opened at least 50 diffrent iPods. The only iPod I haven't opened yet are the 1st 2ond gen monsters and the new Nano
you shouldn't be scared of electronics... a healthy respect is ok. there is nothing complicated about opening an ipod. just be careful, take your time. you pop the back off, it will be connected so open it like a book, the hard drive (on my 4g) wasn't even screwed down, just pop the pin-connector off. and your done... i don't know if you have to do anything with software, never swapped one myself. just bought my first ipod used 2 days ago from a friend... had to see what all this ipod hype is about
well all those methods are risky.there's a better way. i buy ipods that have the folder icon on them(broken hd).i fix them in 2 seconds and sell them as working items.just get a notepad, put it on your desk.hit the ipod charger down on the pad firmly but not so hard that it would break.this works for me 90 percent of the time.this happens because one of the cables are loose but you can hit it back into its proper spot.i once threw the ipod at my door and it worked to LOL but i dont recommend you try that.also do this as a last resort because i will not take responsibility for this seeing it as an unusual method of fixing. here's proof: http://digg.com/apple/FIX_CURE_the_SAD_FACE_and_BAD_Hard_Drive_on_an_IPOD,_IT_WORKS millions have tried it and it has worked and thats how i earn $$$$
It probably isn't fixed because of a loose cable, but because the disc is failing and you've *temporarily* fixed it by jolting the arms back into place.
