I have a legitimate copy of XP in my pc that came with my Acer PC 18 months ago, but I had no disc it was already in but it just told me to make Acer back up discs of which I did and there is 7 all in all, I dont have a clue what they are for tho, but I am having loads of probs Can anyone tell me if I uninstall it all and wipe my computer clean if I can put it back in from my legit XP number and how would I do it ? or do I have to use the discs someone told me the discs are no good it is just a back up, I,m not very up on all the tech stuff so a simple guide will be helpful. Just want to clean it all out get rid of the crap and start again. As it wont let me download Microsoft updates never had any probs with it before, it started playing up in the last couple of months have checked for viruses , disk clean up and defragged it etc but dont know what else to do, please help I'm desperate.
hi, these back up discs you have, are they bootable?? or do they just contain data and such? also what are the specs of ur system and particularly your motherboard?, that may help if the discs you made are bootable.
I dont know anything about the discs I have not tried them as I didnt want to put them in as I was a bit worried they might wipe my system. before you do anything else you might want to get the free "paragon drivebackup express" and use that program to backup your c: drive. The program will make a bootable backup (that means you can restore that backup into a new hard drive and it will boot up the computer). This way no matter what happens at least you can go back to where you started. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=217534&highlight=paragon Since your unsure of the original backup you made, you might want to do another one. And also check in the directions of your computer if your computer has a recovery partition. That will make the recovery as simple as pressing a button when the computer is booting up. Either way use the free paragon to make a bootable backup as insurance to get you back to your current configuration in case something goes horribly wrong. One more thing you can try is to remove your original hard drive and install a spare drive to run your restorations from the cd's that you made. http://safecomputing.umn.edu/guides/xpinstall.html
I do actually have an 500 GB external hard drive which I have all my music and photos on would I be able to back up all my files on to there ?
the place where your bought your computer can likely burn you a copy of the xp disc.load the disk and follow the instructions.your serial will work.is not being able to update your only problem? if so go to microsoft help and support and they can help.its free and it happened to me.
I'd get on the phone to Acer and see what you achieve. In my experience manufacturers charge for a replacement windows disc....
