I'm using my direct show filters to upmix normal stereo sound to 5.1. surround sound without editing mp3:s by using some other program. I have soundcard with s/pdif output and an external home theather system that supports ac3 input. It's quite simple to upmix sound that has sampling rate of 48 kHz, but it won't work with 44100 Hz sounds. I use windows media player and I would like to know is there a plugin for windows media player that changes sampling rate from 44100 to 48000? I know that winamp has one called "PulSoft resampled Dsound plugin", but the filter that I use for upmixing won't work with winamp...

    Hi Miki,

I think I got a solution for you.
I wanted to achieve the same thing as you (to upmix my stereo audio file to 5.1 DD stream). so after two hours of trying various direct show filters, I finally made it to work.
all you will be needing is two things:
    1. AC3Filter (I'm using ac3filter_1_01a_rc5.exe)
    2. FFDShow (I'm using ffdshow-20041012-sse.exe)

you'll need to configure AC3Filter to output 3/2+SW 5.1, PCM 24bit and check the SPDIF checkbox (you can alter the setting in the ac3filter configuration window under "Main" tab).

you'll need tp configure the FFDShow as well (under audio properties)
    under codec:
select mp3lib as mp3 codec decoder
select S/PDIF as decoder for ac3 codec decoder
under audio setting, select resampe as active, change the frequency to 48,000Hz, and select "Bblackman Nutall windowed sinc" mode.

    and that's it.

other resampling modes gave me some errors, the MAD ac3 decoder gave me errors as well, but just play with the settings abit.
the AC3Filter got some nice tweaks you can use as well.

    hope this could help you
    enjoy
