I am a totally new to modifying the original XBOX. My problem is that I have 2 XBOX's and one is original but the Ethernet adapter is not working on it and the other one has some modifications (comes up with the Evolution dashboard) and not sure what else has been changed because I purchased it this way. My issue is I need to connect to XBOX live. I don't care if I end up with only one working XBOX as long as it doesn't appear to have been modified for Live purposes. Can the modified one be restored back to original? I realize this may be way over my head but I want to know the possibilities.
It depends on how your modded xbox is modded. If it's chipped then more than likely it has a bypass on it so you can play on LIVE. You typically do this by powering on the console with the open tray button and it should boot to the original xbox menu instead of the evo x one. I'm not so sure about soft mods but you should do a forum search.
Thanks,I did a search in the forum and found something on it but I also opened the modded XBOX up and saw that it had a larger hard drive and from what I read, that would keep me from connecting to XBOX Live anyway. I guess I will look into fixing the network adapter on the other original XBOX or chunk it and get a 360.
Don't chuck that xbox so quickly! Install XBMC on the larger hard drive and run some emulators on it. While you are at it, copy some games onto that special hard drive and eliminate disk changes. You have a larger hard drive, many people here wish they had your problems. Then, copy all your music cds and dvd on that larger hard drive and enjoy them playing from your xbox!
Well the larger hard drive XBOX already has some "extra" stuff on it like dashboards and stuff. I wish I could swap the hard drives in the two so that the original hard drive worked in the box with the good network adapter. I swapped the two but when I turned it on it came up in some other language or at least it looked that way. Is there anyway for me to swap the drives and accomplish this? I dont know how to tell if i have a hardware mod or a software. I mean I know there is a software modification but how do I know if it has a mod chip or a BIOS change?
First, you can't swap HDDs in the xbox, unless both boxes are hardmodded (chip installed). I don't know if a larger HDD will get you banned or not, but if you turn your xbox on by pushing the eject button, does it load the M$ dashboard? When you had it opeded could you tell if there was another chip over the bios chip? Does your evolution x dashboard, display a bios number on the main screen? Can you contact the person you bought the console from to see how it was modded? Do you remember exactly what the console displayed when you did try to swap? You don't have to restore the modded console to go on live. If you disable the modded dash or boot to the original dash you can play. Having more info would help point you in the right direction. The unmodded one without an ethernet adapter is pretty much useless, except for the spare parts, primarily the dvd drive.
