I bought this laptop about a year ago and it came with Nero Smartstart installed.

Then when I downloaded the new trial version of Nero 8, it apparently overwrote my version of Smartstart. The trial runs out, and now I am without any DVD software at all.

Went and checked the box my laptop came in, to see if there was a CD I could use to re-install the program, but apparently the only CD that came with the computer is one that reformats the entire harddrive and re-installs windows.

Is there any way I could get my copy of SmartStart restored?

I think you'll have to buy Nero to get it to work if you don't have the OEM version......

If you did not do a clean install, it is possible to still have in the registry the key for the Nero that came with your burner. Was that verion 6 or 7? Go to Nero Product Center and see how many serials do you have displayed. If you have 2 serial numbers, one should be for your old nero. Write that down, download Nero 8 Clean Tool, uninstall Nero 8 using the clean tool and then reinstall the version that you had, 6/7, and enter your serial number.
