I had Nero 6 Ultra on my computer which I loved. When I got a new DVD burner (Memorex) it came with Nero 7 Essentials. I figured I'd need it for the Lightscribe capability and any applicable drivers.

I'm very disappointed in Nero 7 Essentials. It doesn't have the ability to rip cd's like 6 did. The Lightscribe capability isn't worth the trouble, and I had to download some Lightscribe software to even get it to work.

I would like to roll back to Nero 6 but have had VERY bad experiences with uninstalling software of this type. Have lost the capability of even seeing cd/dvd drive, etc. Can anyone give me some hints how to do this safely? (Obviously, I'll do a restore point. But that will only get me back to square one.) Also, does Nero 6 Ultra work with the Lightscribe if I want to use it?

Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

hi..I was going to post a similar question, but saw this one first.
I just bought a new Lite-on burner (iHap 422) that came with that same nero7 essentials disk. I haven't installed anything yet, but I was wondering whether or not to use this bundled version of nero with the new lite-on. I also already have nero 6 ultra(paid version) and it's always been good to me. If I'm reading this right, do not switch to nero7 essentials? I'm assuming I will be given that choice when I load the disk for the other needed drivers, correct? Thanks.

Thanks so much for your response. I knew I would find good advice here. I actually have a paid for copy of Nero 6 Ultra. I was just paranoid about disabling my cd/dvd reader. Now that I think about it, that happened with Windows 2000.

I am disappointed with the "Essentials" thing. I really should have checked before I loaded. My bad.

    Thanks again.
