How do i rip a dvd to my HD (by using dvd shrink, dvd decrypter or clone dvd) and then make it into a watchable divx file so i can watch it when i want? Thanks.

The problem is to convert a VOBs+Bup+Ifo set (the cone containing the movie) into an AVI. P.S. DVD Decrypter is outdated. Use DVD Decrypter + AnyDVD (in the background) or DVD Fab Express (and then select the biggest VTS set, except VTS_#_0.VOB, which are only menus).
Thanks for the guide, the only problem is, it says in dvd2avi to select audio ---> Dolby Digital Decode ------> Decode, but it has not got the option to decode. All it has is 'dynamic range control', 'dynamic surround downmix' and 'pre-scale decision'. Anyone help?
For divx you would want DivX Create or whatever it is called. Not sure what else supports the divx media format and to what extent (subtitles, chapters, menus, etc.). If you convert to avi, you would need to remux afterwards and you would be better off using something like AutoGK, FairUse Wizard, etc.

First you need to rip the movie to your hd using DVDFab Decryptor or use anydvd that now includes a ripper..Once that is done You could use CloneDVDMobile select the generic divx it well convert a 90 minute movie in under 30 minutes on my comp and mines nothing special. amd 2600xp - 1 gig ram - 256 ati radion... the Clonedvdmobile version 1.0.7.1 can end up with out of sync audio the new beta 1.1.0.2 doesnt always want to convert movies the one you need is beta 1.1.0.1 just do a quick google search and you can find that version. Now the one thing i well tell you with the 1.1.0.1 they made a fix to improve video basicly makeing a one pass take same time as 2 pass it did improve video but instead of 30 minutes it takes like 100.. However i did some serfing and found out where and what needed to be edited to get the old speed back. So i made my own customer DEVICES.ini file....just copy and paste this is and you can choose either fast copy or do the longer copy to improve video..although myself the fast gives great results..just Nice job giving us the .ini settings Trident5!!! BTW - I just picked up an Audiovox SMT5600 and would love to move some of my divx/vxid files over to it. I see you have a Smartphone setting listed. Any idea how to get either: 1) A Divx/Xvid codec installed on WMP10 that comes with Windows Mobile 2003SE 2) A player that will play .avi files (with your settings) on a Smartphone? I have tried both Betaplayer and the latest release of TCPMP but neiter works well on my device. Any thoughts?
"-ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4" is not DivX, that is libavcodec's MPEG-4 encoder. mencoder can't encode via DivX, well other than the old open divx.

And Wyntre i personaly havnt used Windows Mobile 2003SE. In order to get your codecs you want on your device i would try www.divx.com and check the forums you may find an answer there. Or with any luck someone might know the answer here.
Only dumb questions are ones that arnt asked lol...no worries it goes to devices.ini so use like notepad to open the file and just select all and overwrite the info thats in there.
And that converting is exactly what DVDx does... You don't even need to rip DVD to HD with this software, it does the encoding FROM DVD. It's also very easy to use, good program to start with.
now on this note, what's a good setting combo? i need the file total to be less than 973mbs. any ideas?
