Hello, I just purchased a new Sony Vaio computer with a DVD±Burner. I was wondering if ripping reduced quality and if so by how much. And I was also wondering how much the quality is reduced by compressing. And as far as my knowledge goes dvd burning is done is these steps: 1. Decrypt with dvddecrypter 2. Compress with DVD2One 3. Burn with Nero. If I am missing any steps or if anyone has a recommendation for better software, your input would be appreciated.
mattinzen, Your steps will work, but dvdshrink will do it in 2 steps. It will decrypt and shrink in one step, then burn back to blank media with Nero 6 or recordnow. Ripping doesn't reduce quality, compression does. Anything below 60% will show up on the backup. Shrink lets you re-author the disc to remove all extras if needed which helps reduce compression and give you a better movie only burn. DVDshrink is free. download and guides are on this site. Jerry
Jerry, thanks alot for your help, are you saying that only compression under 60% will affect quality, and also, with Dvd Shrink I can choose what and what not to remove correct, it doesn't automatically rip and compress does it?
