Ripping purely

    I´m not sure this question belongs in here since the headline is "Audio compression", but here goes...

    Is there a piece of software that can rip in PCM audio?

    In Virtual Dub it says that this is "no compression"

    Thanks for the advice. I think I´ll stick with CDex, unless the EAC has some better features?

    Well, EAC is more configurable and I also like it's GUI better. CDEx is a very good alternative too, just enable the Paranoia mode for secured ripping. Both are freeware.

    CDEx supports Riff-WAV MP3 encoding and normalizing easily, that's why I prefer it (I only use it as a sophisticated LAME front-end as 99.999% of my audio processing is related to DVDs :).

    WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT ENABLE THE PARANOIA MODE IN EAC!!! If you do, there is a good chance it will destroy your CD-ROM. I learned the hard way, and spent $185 for a new Plextor CD-Rom.

    Why did you enable the paranoia mode? Plextors are perfect with secure mode and C2 enabled. High speed and accuracy.

    I used paranoia on a damaged CD and the rip came out perfect. I have a Lite-On 24x10x40 burner and it didn´t take any damage.

    Careful here people:

    CDEx secure modes are known as "Paranoia modes", since they originate form a Linux project known as CDDA Paranoia.

    EAC also has a mode known as "Paranoid mode", but this is a totally different issue. It is the first & original secure read mode by the author but absolutely not recommended since it stresses the drive to the extreme.

    I have noticed that music that are ripped to mp3 in CDex with Paranoid Mode enabled get a little smaller then if you don't have Paranoid Mode enabled.
