HI- I have a Rosewill DVD Burner. I've had it less than a year and it's already "not working". I wrote to Rosewill tech support and their reply was:"I think it was defective, you need to buy a new one". I truly hate answers like this. Problem: the drawer won't open without using a paper clip. I get an error message when trying to make a home movie dvd. I have to push the drawer closed when done. I think the guy is right but I feel I should check all possible avenues before buying a new burner. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help. mj013 Dell Dimension 2350, Win XP, 512 ddrsdram, 1.8 ghz, Pent 4
Was this drive working properly before this issue? Open up the tower and check the power connector and IDE connectors. Make sure they are seated properly.Check the other drives as well. I've seen them just pop off before. If they check out ok: Go into device manager under cdrom/dvd drives. Make sure your drive is listed there when you open up the tree. Locate your rosewill drive/double click it/click driver tab/uninstall/and reboot. XP should hook it back up. Sometimes a drive will get lost,so an uninstall/re-install may fix it. A new-quality burner costs around $35-$40 if it turns out to be a bad drive,so nothing major.
I'd gone to the device mgr and it said everything was working properly. this did happen once before and then it seemed to work itself out. Now the the problem is back. Once again I went to dev.mgr and it said 'it was working properly'. I'll try your advice. Thank you , mj013
