Hi all. I just moved into a new apartment that have wireless internet. However I brought my own router with me. Can I set it up without actually have access to the modem or access point? I am currently using a wireless adapter to connect to the internet. Is there a way to use the router without having to run wires all over the apartment. Thanks.

I'm making the assumption that you're subscribing to the wireless service and you are accessing it presently with a wireless adapter but you also have a wireless router and want to make use of it. Well that would require being hard wired to the modem to work which I can see that you already know. Your options therefore include obtaining wired service to a modem which is then hard wired to the router-> wireless service. Or purchase wireless adapters for the rest of your computers. You may or may not need a wireless signal booster depending on the topgraphy of your new apartment. This is stretching my knowledge of networking(with wired networking being the method with which I'm familiar) but bear with me and see if it makes sense. It may be possible to use the computer that presently has the wireless adapter (that you are now using to connect to the internet) as a proxy server and then setup a wireless network using say USB bluetooth adapters(dongles). You may then be theoretically able to access the internet via the proxy from any computer on the network. This may very well be a pie in the sky idea. Sorry I can't be of greater assistance.
