As a long time stalker of this site and using its many tips I decided to junk my Roxio and go with a program like NERO and since they don't play together I am uninstalling Roxio. Here is the point where everyone laughs at the supposed noob after he had a few pints. I made the mistake of using the Roxio registry zapper found on a different thread B4 I removed the program. Now, I cannot use [bold]Add/remove Programs[/bold] because I get the dreaded [bold]Fatal error during installation[/bold] window. I can't re-install the entire program because it says [bold]Unable to find certificate file[/bold], then after pressing the OK button it says [bold]Could not open certificate reading DLL[/bold] I went into my recycle bin to unerase all the files that were cleaned out ant even though there were like 600 of them i restored them all but still no luck. I've tried reinstalling from my original Disc and from the original files installed the very first time. Any help is appreciated and all typical noob jokes will be judged... http://livingdeadband.com
After all the expert advice posted, I formatted the HD after backing up importants to my spare. reinstalled windows and drivers, and also had a good excuse to clean the dust bunnies out the case.
Roxio EMC 7/7.5 and Nero get along just fine. You can't install both of the packet writing software of the suites, though. If you actually want to use packet writing software (unwise), then you have to choose one or the other. What will your use of the program be? It makes a big difference in the choice of which one you use. If you are doing home video editing, then Roxio has Nero beat, hands down. Nero is very limited in editing video.
I do some editing, mostly just digital video capture of my band's performances. I haven't found anything it could do editing wise much better than the windows movie maker but maybe I wasn't using it enough to know the difference. Is there anything besides the drag to disc feature of Roxio that uses the packet writing Grampa speaks of? I almost have have my system tweaked smooth again and don't want to install Roxio again unless I find a work-around to this problem. I've looked at other posts and searched for keywords but no luck yet. Thanks for the response Grampa, I was beginning to think everyone left me hung to dry!!!
