Hello I am currently in college studying Video Game Design. My problem is that now I have to looking into getting a laptop for school. Please keep in mind that I have never used anything but a desktop my entire life, and I have no experiences with laptops. I came across the Sager NP8120 and I like what it has to offer(Even better than Alienware). The only thing stopping me is the i7-820QM Processor as it has only 1.73Ghz. I however read that in Turbo mode/boost it can get to 3.06GHz.

So my question is what is turbo mode or turbo boost?
Is it something I can enable and adjust or does the laptop do it whenever it feels like it?
Lastly what are the cons of turbo? Overheating? Lower battery life? Which I could not care less about.

I have searched for these answers with little clarification. I am open to any information or suggests as I have no experience in these matters.

This processor has to be able to handle heavy design and video editing software. Oh and some hardcore PC games would be nice ;)

    Thanks for you help.

Turbo boost only comes in when you are not using all the cores. If you are only using one of the cores, then that core runs at 3.06GHZ...if you are using all four cores, then you are running at 1.73ghz, and no more.
