Have been recording installments of a weekly half-hour program on to one DVD-R. Not copy protected, off-air broadcasts. Finalizing was to be after the 4th installment was one the disc. Had three of the programs on the disc. Shortly after the start of the 4th installment, the message "Could Not Record, Remove Disc" appeared. It will not finalize nor reload in the recorder. I cannot access the first three installments. Is there some software compatible with Windows XP Pro that can read these for burning to another disc? Or is this disc suitable only for hanging in the apple tree next Spring to try to discourage the deer? Thanks for your help.

Yes, stand-alone recorder. Discs started on that recorder are not recognized for additional recording nor finalizing by any other machine nor software that I have.

To amend my original request, is there ANY practical way to salvage the contents of such a disc? I assumed that some special computer program would be the only choice. I am virtually certain that it would be possible, but the need for such may be limited and thus it has not been developed.

Have you tried to rip the first 3 installments onto the HDD with dvd shrink or dvd decrypter and then reburn to a new disc on your pc?
