samsung 1080p camcorder mp4 playback on pc is BAD

when i watch the videos on the camcorder they are fine but when i try to play them in VLC media player the videos are very chopy and not fluid like they should be. i upgraded my video card to a full 1080p hd card and am running an hdmi card and the video quality is still not any better when watching the videos taken with my samsung hd camcorder. does anyone have any advice on how to play the videos with better quality?
