Network: AT&T (phone bought when it was still cingular)

I have been looking through the archives and really the only two useful things I've seen are a post telling someone its not worth it to unlock this phone, and a list of instructions on how to use a different simcard in phone. However nothing to unlock it perminately.

This is the phone I have to work with right now, so I would like to get it unlocked despite the issues, if possible.

What I'm trying to do with it is download ring tones from a free service and not AT&T. I was able to do it previously (most likely when it was still cingular) but now when I send it through it comes up with a "warning content not supported". If there is some other way to get around this message I would appreciate the help. I am hoping that unlocking the phone will allow me to download ring tones like I use to. I'm just guessing that the content is not supported because AT&T does not want me doing this, but thats just where pure logic lead me and could certainly be wrong.

    sorry for all the writing
thanks in advance for any responses

Just follow these steps for now:

First with different carrier SIM in phone at WRONG CARD screen ENTER on the keypad
    *2767*3855# (wait 10-15 seconds) phone will reboot(restart)
    When phone completes reboot ENTER
    *7465625*638*00000000*00000000# (Network Lock Personalized)
    NEXT ENTER
    #7465625*638*00000000# (Network Lock Deactivated)

I am not really tech minded so I need to know if I can unlock my C417 that has a different IMEI the same way as was suggested. THEN can I use this phone in Italy with an Italian SIM card? THEN when I come back to the States do I just replace the SIM card with the original one and it will again work on Cingular/ATT?

We'll only be gone a month so I don't want to mess up the phone so it is unuseable when I return.

    Thanks.
