hay guys in the process of building my new computer.

i have a seagate 250gb hard drive in bios from some reason its reading my sata hard disk at 4th master and not primary master drive.

when i boot XP from the cd and go into the partitioning and windeos setup it says i only have a total of 135GB of free space to install windows. But in bios is states 250GB working at recognised.

Can anyone help as i dont want to lose half of the drive space.

    Your help is appreciated

    cheers Jace

i just deleted all the partitions on the drive but windows setup is still only reading max space at 134GB.

Man this sux i wonder what is causing this problem.

the sata drive is connected and working and connected to SATA1 insert point on the motherboard.

Also jusdt looked at bios setup again and its still reading at 250GB.

    any help?

The problem is Windows. It has problems seeing drives that big. I had the same type of problem with a 160GB Maxtor drive.

There is a little utility on MS web site (Sorry, I don't remember the name or have a link) that will correct this.

You might also want to check the Seagate web site as I'm sure they have a fix also.

    Good luck!
