I have used my WD IDE HD for about 4 years now and just recently my computer has been acting weird (shutting down randomnly when in windows). I backed up all my stuff and just ended up getting a new drive. This new one is a Sata and I am not so familiar with those but from what I've been reading, I still should not be dealing with this problem. I have installed the XP SP2 OS on this drive from a different computer since the one I have now doesn't seem to like it. Basically, whenever I boot it, right before the windows loading screen with then bars that move left to right, it gives BSOD and restarts. I have disconnected all my PCI's except my graphics and it still does this. The hard drive itself will boot up with other computers. I also noticed that another Sata hard drive that has had no prior problems will do the same thing (BSOD at the same point) and reboot. This leads me to believe that it's the board settings or a bios setting. I have tried so many things and have read so much stuff and I really have run out of ideas. Setup is as follows: Asus A7N8X-Deluxe 1gb crucial 5950 ultra geforce barton 2800+ 640gb WD Sata
That will happen because you installed windows to that drive from a PC that is too different to yours - windows has is loading software for hardware that doesn't exist, and as a result bluescreens. You need to install windows to the drive using your PC.
