I am not sure what you are meaning by hub. All you need to do is call up your satellite internet provider and they should supply the equipment you need with your contract. A friend used Starband, I think that was the name, until they finally got cable in his area. He wasn't really too happy with it - very long ping times so it was not very good for gaming. He timed out a lot on file transfers too, so he said it was mostly just good for web surfing. However if that was all that was available he said he would still have it if cable hadn't got to his neighborhood.

I dont know what part of the world you are from or exactly how you have ten trillion dollars to play with but 16000KPS = 15.625MBS = roughly 2.85 T3 connections which cost on the scale of thousands/month to maintain (for those who count in Mbits, that's a supposed 125Mbit connection which if true, is rockin).

Sat connection is only any good if you want to download lots and lots of data. Your upstream is still by regular means (eg.modem, dsl)at whatever speed your normal connection is. The ping times are ridiculous so it's completely useless for gaming.

If i get satellite ill get, satellite (obviously) (16000KBPS Download Speed) and Ticali Broadband 150k download but up to 250k upload (i currently have 256k upload. that will be fine for gaming.

...125Mbit sattelite? (Just so you know, most universities are based on T3's, 45Mbits each and several thousand dollars per month to maintain).....

You've lost me now. If you already have broadband the extra bandwidth from sat is only worth it if you have a real need to DOWNload LOTS of data, or share your connection with others (which amounts to the same thing) unless you are getting the sat connection for free.
It's ping times that matter for gaming. More bandwidth only really matters if you intend hosting a games server, but that is not an option via the hopeless ping times from sat.

I'll ad a little info I got from a friend who used to have satellite internet. He agreed that it's usually not much good for playing games because of the upload speed (remember you have to send information back as well as getting it from the server), and of course being satellite based it can be affected by the weather. In a bad storm it will often be completely unavailable, and even in weather that isn't actually bad enough to bring it down completely, there can be so much data that has to be re-sent that it can slow down to dialup speed. That doesn't mean I wouldn't recommend it, because it depends on the available options. I'd still rather have satellite than dialup, but since I have decent DSL available, I've used that for the last 4 years. I used to get a lot of crap from friends who were on cable internet (who didn't believe me when I told them to give it a year or 2 and see if it slowed down) but a lot of them have switched to DSL because their bandwidth sucks. I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't say don't do it because I don't know what your options are, but I'd recommend trying to find other people who have used it so you can get honest opinions instead of marketing hype. If nothing else, any service with problems should have loads of people complaining about it on the internet.

After thinking about it, I'm also starting to think the speed you've been quoting is the service's overall capability. Keep in mind, regardless of what kind of speed you get from the satellite, the speed is going to be limited to their total bandwidth to the internet backboneminus whatever other people are using. Let's say an ISP has a backbone connection to their provider of 45Mbps (T-3) and they have 10 users at any given time. That would give each user around 4.5Mbps. On the other hand, if they have 10,000 users online at once, that means each will be limited to around 4.5kbps (less than good modem speed). I imagine that the actual ratio is better than that last figure, but I doubt you'll be getting 16,000Kbps. Like all things, if it seems too good to be true it probably is.

Big difference from what you said ... unless I cant do arithmetic (and thats a serious concern these days LOL), thats 15Mbits/sec which is a lot more rrasonable -- however you need to realize that your average speed wont ever be near that value because (1) marketing people always quote the theoretical max and (b) satelite is notorious for varying speed -- in either case -- a decent setup for that price (kinda). :)

But back to your original question .... you would get your hub from SkyNet
