Hi Scouser. You kindly left a message on one of my other posts about a starview4 displaying 8882 on the LCD and no signal on the tv screen, but you didn't say what you thought was the problem. If you've got any information on this subject I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

The box was previously working ok, but crashed whilst running an image file.

    Cheers

To fix the 8882 problem, you need to use a Max232 in conjunction with a null modem cable. The Max232 interface will cost you £12.50 plus P&P. Either that or if you used a reputable supplier they may help you out, with either a repair or replacement. First port of call should be your supplier.

If not you will get the Max232 interface here it will come with all you need, i.e. GTromloader V25 and latest bin.

The Max232 acts as an interface so you can bypass the USB, (as the USB wont work due to a bad flash which gives you the 8882 error).

Latest firmware for the SV4 is 1.07 for the UK or 1.09 for Ireland. Format your memory stick on the box first before putting firmware on stick and flashing. This may stop you from getting the 8882 error.

    Supplier doesn't want to know.

Does 8882 mean the USB interface is permanently damaged, or should everything be ok once the software has been re-installed?

maybe on the next starview model they should also put on a rs232 port(cost of a few pennies) as well as the usb port to override any bad flash issues that disables the usb port.

Its not permanently damaged, you can repair it with the Max232 as I posted above.

One thing to try is load the LOGO file also as you may be missing this, you will find it here
Most boxes that are shipped already have the logo file, however going by what you said about the supplier it may be missing. BTW who was the supplier?

If after that you still have 8882 on the LCD, then the Max232 interface is the only repair option.

I don't have any kind of interface into the box, so I can see how I could load a logo file. Am I missing something? It worked fine with the free channels before I flashed it.

Got it from TechDNA.co.uk. They won't touch anything without the original free-to
    view firmware on it.

Clone seller. True but I was seeing was the USB port totally dead, and if thats the case, then the only method is as I said above.

    Ordered the cable today.

Thought I'd chosen a reputable supplier. They say their boxes are originals. Not really surprised they won't take it back in the circumstances, but I have seen forum messages from people who have successfully returned 8882 boxes. Just hope the fix works!

    Hi,

I have the same 8882 problem. I haven't contacted the seller yet, I got mine from Cablebox4u.co.uk. Do you think they would offer me a replacement if I can't get it to work? After all, it was their sales team that sent me the link to get the software for the box?

I was wondering about trying to install the logo like you said.

Just so you know I am totally knew at all this and don't really have a clue about what to do. Seeing as when I turn it on nothing works, all I get is the 8882 error.Do I need to hook the Starview 4 box up to my computer to try put the logo on? If so, what kind of cable would I need to connect it up?

I'm no expert, but my understanding is that if you find your supplier wont replace the box then your only option is the Max232 interface. With the USB no longer working, this is the only way of connecting the box to your PC. You open the box and connect the Max232 cable inside. You can then connect your PC to the Max232 with a null modem cable. The Max232 comes with a fix-it disc to re-activate your USB port and reset the firmware. Once this is done you're in action again! (Mine is on the way to me in the post.)

Eamo's FTA Library is where I got the latest firmware. I can't remember which BIN File it was, the first one went on fine, but the second file however (i think was the logo file) froze on 8%, i left it on for an hour or so and it was still at 8%.

So I turned the box on and off again, when it was starting up the LCD displayed 8888 for a second and then 8882. Now the screen just shows a blank blue screen.

So from what i'm gathering the box is just wrecked and there is nothing else can be done, unless I spend the £13 on the Max252 thing or else the suppliers change The box or give me a refund.

Maybe you are just missing the logo file, did you load that also?

I tried loading up the logo file, but i think that was the one that it froze on. I contacted the seller, they want to know what firmware i was trying to install. even though they were the ones that gave me the link to the site for the software. I think they are trying to find a way out of giving me a replacement???

St00, did you have any joy with the Max232?

I replied to the seller letting them know what firmware I tried to put on,but they still haven't got back to me? They have a link to this website and the Eamo's FTA library

    http://www.cablebox4u.co.uk/ccshop/index.php?act=viewDoc&docId=5

Surely they will give me a replacement box won't they?
