    Hi

Ive never had a dead HDD since 96 , and 2 this year

    Both seagate

    This ones a 500 GB , again Barracuda 7200.11

But this time ,it fails to show in winblows , but chkdsk keeps
finding in , gets all way to end to usn journal verification complete
and just hangs there ,then eventually , ig my ears are aware i hear a slight
noise from HDD , but only when hung on the usn journal verification
    complete

ive bee told seatools(iso?) may fix this ,as it will see a drive even if windows
    cant

    Is this true ?

Or any other advice is appreciated

Oh I see, I wasn't aware you'd tried SeaTools already. Is there data on this drive? I presumed it was a new drive you were installing.

If you want to simply list all of the files on a drive, you could use a pretty simple batch script like so:

    Code:
    dir /s /b c:\* > files.txt

Where c:\ is your drive letter, whatever that might be.

This would probably take a while to complete, and is very crude, but the data might be useful to you. You can specify subfolders etc though, or certain file types.

Otherwise I'm not sure of any specific software without just Googling it.

    Cheers mate

This just went a tad over my lil daft head .

OK the drive letter was m , but win cant see it now as is cept
    on chkdsk when i reboot

Yes this drive has many files on it , its not new

Where how do i type all this info in ? And once/if it shows anything how can
i safely move this to another drive or burn to disc ?

    Cheers

Sorry, I thought you were asking in general for a way to list files on a hard drive for future reference - it's not for data recovery. Forget that for now, I don't want to confuse things.

Anyway, presumably this hard drive isn't your main drive (where Windows is installed) - it's a secondary hard drive? Is it internal or external? My Computer not listing the drive isn't the same thing as the PC not seeing the drive at all hence chkdsk running. Go into Device Manager (in Control Panel) and see if the drive is listed there (your hard drive will be under Disk Drives. See what's listed and if your problem hard drive is listed then go in to properties, have a look if it is reporting an error or such).

Yes ita a internal drive , but not the windows drive

Nope doesnt show in disc mgmt either ( last seagate did tho and wouldnt
reactivate) . But on repost chkdsk scans it and seemingly finds
no errors and then hangs after reporting usn journal verification is
    complete .

    Thanks

I saw your post on tom's hardware (found it Googling for related info) and it sounds like a hardware issue tbh. Did you manage to contact Seagate?

You could try booting a linux live cd and seeing if the drive is picked up, but I doubt it (if the drive is faulty and not spinning up properly).

Today being sunday i figured seagate was closed

    i will try tomorrow tho

i have a good feeling about linux , i had a failing tablet(android) i was sure it was
DOA , maybe 2 days on windows various failures to read it , i had a friend who is
a Linux god , on fone he told me all the commands etc , and Bob Marleys your uncle
the tablet is alive again lol

i wouldnt know where to begin in Linux tho , and i have no idea how to contact
my friend anymore . So im SOL . But id hold a good bet Linux could see something
but even then id have no idea how to move things even if i figured out how to see them lol

    Tnx
