    It has come to my attention the issue of security, so i would like to help a couple of people out...

    i am going to list a few programs that i think everyone should get (even if you are on Dial-Up, trust me its worth the time)...
    here they are with my short description and my rating out of five:

    => [bold]NecroFile[/bold] [free *****]
    NecroFile is great, what it does is two things. It can securely delete a file for you;
    BUT WAIT THERES MORE;
    there is another option that will scan all the sectors on your computer and delete the empty ones (not harm your files) so that the files you supposably deleted are in fact unrecoverable, and it is proven to work, so this is definitely worth getting. you will have to read its readme before starting to use because it can seem daunting at first.

    => [bold]SpywareGuard[/bold] [free *****]
    Does exactly what it does, real-time scanning continualy updated, i use it and it works great, also has download protection and i forget the other feature so check it out on its site, again definitely worth its time.
    Link: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sgdownload.html

    => [bold]Peer Guardian[/bold] [free ****]
    Peer guardian is another tool that is continually updated and is used through the method of blocking IP adresses from:
    -Government
    -Educational
    -Adware
    -Spyware
    -P2P
    these are necessary and last time i checked it blocked over 9 million dangerous IP adresses. a good program but it can sometimes cause slower internet access and sometimes blocks pages.
    Link: http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

    => [bold]NoAdware[/bold] [share ware *****]
    This program is good because it identifies malware and spyware on your system that many other programs do not, for example, it found a keylogger on my system that i thought was bad news while spybot and others did not notice it...
    Link: http://www.noadware.net/

    => [bold]PConPoint[/bold] [share ware ****]
    just another registry fixer, not so much for security but a good utitlity to have because it is more elaborate than the cleaner in CCLeaner.
    Link: http://www.pconpoint.com/

    => [bold]CCLeaner[/bold] [free **********]
    if you do not have this program, get it!.... that is all i have to say, its great !!!
    Link: http://www.ccleaner.com/

    => [bold]GetDataBack[/bold] [share ware ****]
    useful file recovery program but amongst others not very same because it is extremely effective, scans every single sector deeply and finds almost every file that you have deleted (except maybe after NecroFile :)
    Link: http://www.runtime.org/ (you have to select which version)

    => [bold]Handy Recovery 1.0[/bold] [free ***]
    another good file recovery program that is not as effective but good for recently deleted files (except maybe after NecroFile :) and it is also fast.
    Link: http://www.gold-software.com/download3032.html

    => [bold]PC Inspector File Recovery[/bold] [free ****]
    similar situation as Handy Recovery...
    Link: http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm

    => [bold]RegistryFix[/bold] [share ware ****]
    another registry fixer, but it is not a necessity, compared to CCLeaner...
    Link: http://www.registryfix.com/overview.htm

    => [bold]Spyware Blaster[/bold] [free ****]
    A spyware blocker for ActiveX, blocks from Mozilla, Internet Explorer and one other thing that i forget, check it out on its website.
    Link: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html

    => [bold]DocScrubber[/bold] [free **********]
    Ever posted a .doc file on the net... Little do you know that it carries a LOT of personal details about you, including your name (what your username is anyway) so i recommend...
    Link: http://www.docscrubber.com/download.html

    => [bold]Eraser[/bold] [free **********]
    this performs the basic same tasks as Necrofile and is really easy to use, i recommend that you all get this program...Probably better than Necrofile...
    Link: http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/download.php

    => [bold]Spyware Doctor[/bold] [share ware ********]
    carries out the same purpose as Spybot S&D but supposably more effective <?>
    Link: http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/

    These programs are only a few of the quality tools available, if you have knowledge of more programs that fall under the same purpose, please do post as this thread will be very valuable...

    PS: Keep Posting...

    I haven't heard a few of the above mentioned, but I have the following programs on my system and so far it's all good.

    CCleaner
    Spybot Search & Destroy
    Sygate Personal Firewall
    Ad-Aware SE Personal (from Lavasoft)
    HiJackThis
    Microsoft AntiSpyware
    Norton AntiVirus 2005

    And I used to have Win XP SP2 firewall, but I get rid of it since it can't monitor both incoming & outgoing.

    the software you outlined, that is what i am suggesting for people to do...

    PS: SP2 Firewall is good because you can controll access for programs to the internet and it also has certain features (unconfigurable) that block ports to your computer commonly considered a threat...

    so its a good thing to have, besides its not hurting anything...

    send a pm to a moderator and ask nicely if they will move it (and send them the link as they prolly dont have time to sift through looking for it.

    Yes, I agree that it's good, but somehow I prefer Sygate better. Like I said, it can't monitor both "incoming & outgoing" and that is the reason why I prefer Sygate Personal Firewall instead, which Sygate can monitor both easily inside its settings - and yes... it's free and good.

    than you all for contributing...
    i will send a pm to a moderator asking if they could PLEASE move this thread to user submitted guides and i hope that you all re-find this thread in there and keep contributing...

    @ Fruhmann
    If those are the ONLY programs you have running you would be moderately safe but these programs and the ones that are being listed by viewers are for people that want their PC's safe and lacking as much personal info as possible... Personally i would seek to grab some of the software listed...

    PS: everyone should obviously also have a firewall and antivirus installed, i use Norton Internet Securtity 2005 or before i have used Zone-Alarm + Antivirus but that appeared buggy... so keep'a'postin'

    over and out....

    i never had any luck with norton it crashed 3 time in two months so i dumped it and got Trend Mirco Internet Securtiy 2005 a MUCH better program than norton .also iam using a firewall/router for a firewall (being i have a cable connection) and it works well and the Trend Mirco has a built in firewall too
