    hi
Hope you guy's can help.I have somehow recently been infected somehow by adware,i have firewall and spybot etc.. all the nessercery stuff to prevent this but i assume one of the kids accepted an invitation to download something(off coke music i assume),anyway i have run spybot and got rid of the adware but it constantly re-installs itself every time i clear it.It is ruining every session on my pc now,all i keep getting is firewall pop ups asking to connect to a dns server(not sure what thats is).
is there any way i can get rid of these or have they beat me?
do i have to reinstall windows?

    PLEASE HELP!
    many thanks

take a look in your msconfig to see what is not supposed to be there. are you doing your updates & immunized your system in spybot?

I had some trojans that would replicate themselves in the "System Restore" file. It took DAYS to find them and delete all of them. Just a thought.

sorry guys i forgot to tell you the most important thing that has gone wrong.that is

after a session on "winxp pro" i had to shut down using the on/off button rather than proper shutdown because firewall had frozen i think and on reboot i now get my desktop background and an expanded my documents folder,it appears that the desktop has been locked and should i close the "my docu" folder there is nothing there at all,no toolbars and no icons or links and the system is useless.
I have too much on the HD to lose so do you know anyway around that?

    many thanks for the replies

Boot into safemode - hold(F8)key and follow ddp's advice.
