I just put together a new computer, and it seems that every time I try to use Nero, it fails for one reason or another. I am currently using a Samsung SH-S183L SATA Drive. I have the updated firmware (7-3-07) and I have tried burning with both Maxell and Verbatim Discs with no luck. The only burns that I can successfully make are with Verbatim DL discs using
XBC software. I noticed DMA is turned off, but I have no clue how to turn on DMA with SATA drives. For reference, I am using an ASUS Striker Extreme Motherboard.

    The log is as follows:

    Hi NonToxic
    Here's a later firmware update - SB02.
    The log shows SB00.

You're probably ok with DMA - Nero doesn't report sata correctly. In device manager look for nvidia or sata controllers you can check in there.

Update package 1 of Nero to 6.6.1.15

Try another burning program too. Here's a good free one - ImgBurn. Use the build mode to add the files or video_ts folder.

    edit: fix link

No Dice. I updated the firmware and Nero and still haven't had any success with any program. The only program that ever works is XBC and that is with Dual Layer DVD's. Here is the latest log

I'm not familiar w/ XBC software but have you tried single layer discs w/ it?
    What error did ImgBurn give?
Check you aspi in Nero. Under applications in SmartStart go to ToolKit>Info Tool. Click on the aspi tab. See if anything shows corrupted - if it shows system apsi not installed that's ok. Most programs use their own aspi or ms's spti.

These discs you're using now wokr w/ this drive in your previous pc?

For System ASPI, it says it is not installed. For Nero ASPI, it says it is installed and working properly. As for image burn, here are the errors i get. XBC stands for xbox creator software which is for burning 360 games.

Txs for the info on XBC.

Ok before you did this new build did this drive work with the same media?
If it did - on the old pc what programs are different the new build?
ImgBurn gives a power calibration error which can be caused by:
    °Media
°Firmware not up to date (yours is)
    °Poor power to the drive
    °Dusty/dirty lens on the drive
    °Drive on the way out
Now I would think that you would also get similar errors when burn dual layer

This is a brand new drive. I gave the old pc away. I am sure it isn't a power issue since i have a 850W Thermaltake Power supply and everything else is working fine. I starting to think that the drive is going bad.

I don't think it's a power issue either (I could be wrong though) cause I would think dual layer would fail also at a minimum.

Do you have another pc or even a friends that you can try this drive in?
I'd also try another sata port - just in case.
