Hello all...I was needing input on where one might set the sliders on the systems audio properties to get the best results when recording streaming audio. I have been experimenting a little, but the results seem to be a little distorted and I am unsure which sliders to move. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
What sliders are you talking about, precisely? If your problem is just one of too much, or too little volume, that can be fixed with trial and error, [bold]or by learning to read the decibal meter in your recording software.[/bold] If it's just a matter of volume, and you want to see what works best, you can make a test recording - starting with a low volume first, then increase the volume every 10 seconds or so -- then you can play it back to hear which one sounds best.
Thanks so much for your reply. The sliders I was talking about are in the playback options are the volume and the wave, both seem to turn the volume up and down,I have both of those set about three quarters of the way to the top, and in the recording options I have the wave out mix selected, and the slider is almost all the way down to the bottom. I get decent results on the computers speakers, but I put the songs on a disk, and they don't sound very good on home stereo. So does a person move the playback options sliders up/down or move the recording options slider up/down. I am using Freecorder to record, it doesn't really have a signal meter other than a line that moves, showing that it is recording. I hope I haven't confused anyone (other than myself of course).
what are you actually recording from? a stereo or streaming audio from the internet, etc.? The volume you want to focus on, if you can, is whatever you're playing. If you say the final product sounds distorted, you might need to [bold]lower the play volume[/bold]. If you were recording too low, it would play back kind of low, to where if you turned it way up, you'd hear a lot of background noises. I'll wait to hear back.
ashroy, thanks again for your speedy reply. I think I may have it figured out. I am recording streaming radio, and I'm on dialup, the stream is coming in at 20 kbps, so I think I was expecting too much I have it adjusted to where it comes out pretty decent, and any little distortion in final product I can adjust out on my stereos equalizer, Once again thank you for all your help
