    Hi All, Happy new year.

I want to set up a new TV system at my house in Ashbourne.
From what I’ve read It seems the free view in Ireland is either Up or very near up so I will want to receive this. Also I love snooker on BBC so come world champs in April I will want red button functionality for that.

I have nothing purchased yet and will also be buying a new TV as part of it.
There is a Sky dish on the house and I have an old sky box and card I don’t use anymore. We are currently watching UPC basic MMDS (roof Ariel) package which I plan to cancel when this is all done.

So any Advice or opinions on how you would start from scratch ?

just get a MMDS box, if your on the corus MMDS, get a box like Eurovox T or Digivox T, they will work and give you the full chans, sports movies etc, thats if yer on chorus MMDS,

You will get all FTA chans using the Sky dish to, ya dont need to subscribe to Sky to get this, just connect the box and dish and off ya go, regarding the red button, that only works on a sub package, like Sky,

You wont get Rte's etc on FTA anyways,

Nice one Lads, I would rather not use any Illegal stuff if posible. So the freesat is defo an option but from other threads I've read to future proof my setup I think I should make provisions for Irish DTT when it is up and running. So what about a cobo box that accepts both the Sat feed and another terestial one ? or should I be looking for that as a built in part of the TV I will buy ?

The DTT service in Ireland, is 4 or 5 chans with some radio chans, you can pick up a digital all for one aerial in powercity, but is it worth it?

or have a look at one of these Technomate 6900 super combo ; - )

If you want to be prepared for DTT do as you suggested and just get a TV with it built in but make sure it's DVB-T Mpeg4. Not Mpeg2

Freesat is the UK format for Free Sat TV, which has the interactive button on BBC, this is different to FTA sat, as far as I know ya need a UK postal address inputted into it,

There is a link above on it.

nthell dont have interactive on their boxs (which work anyways)

As Mooley suggests, ya need a TV with the MPEG4 decoder built into it, UK is MPEG2, so a UK tv wont work down here to get DTT

your right mickah you have to enter uk postcode, the reason if you put a northern irish postcode you get bbc ni and utv as your local an english adress will give you bbc england and itv,but on the list of channels you will have all the bbc scotland ,wales

nowt to do with RTE as they are on the Sky platform, they are not even FTA,

Freesat is a UK service, but if ya get a box up north and enter in a UK mainland address as discussed above you will get the chans as advised,

If your getting a TV and based in Ireland, make sure you have a MPEG4 built in decoder, ones bought in the UK wont work down here for DTT. After that its up to you what ya get, the more connections the better, HDMI, USB etc

for the bbc interactive you need a sat dish and a satellite receiver or a tv with built in freesat

ah cool, was wondering as ya were posting links to argos in the uk,

was looking at the freesat and you can add more FTA chans to it, thats not currently on the box, similar to the Other chans on Sky
