I have 4 computers currently set up on a LAN to use the internet and share files. I also have a laptop and a PSP that i would like to use wirelessly but the router is set to far to have a wireless router plugged into it. I have setup the wireless router onto one of the computers currently setup and it works fine for about 10 mins and then it disconnects all of the internet on the LAN and the WAN so i have to restart the modem. How can i have a wireless router plugged into a computer on the LAN without the internet disconnecting, any ideas?
Hi, do you have dhcp enabled on the wireless router? If you do it will conflict with the wired router and you will run into problems.
Hey, DHCP in a nutshell supplies IP addresses to the machines connected to the router. If you have a wired router providing IPs and a wireless doing the same, you will have a conflict. Try logging into the wireless router and disable DHCP. The wireless will now be an access point and recieve DHCP and IPs from the wired router.
Thanks for the help, I have got my Wireless Router Plugged into my other router and is not disconecting now but having trouble accessing wireless with my PSP now as DHCP needs to be enabled i think. Will i haev the same problem when i try to connect a wireless laptop to the router?
"I also have a laptop and a PSP that i would like to use wirelessly but the router is set to far to have a wireless router plugged into it." Is the signal strong enough to reach the PSP? Can you see the wireless signal in the PSP configuration utility? Try the notebook and see if you get a signal. If the wireless router has ethernet ports on it ,try to plug in one of the computers. If it works it's not a DHCP issue.......
The PSP finds the router 100% signal strength. The wireless router is plugged into this desktop PC so that this PC can connect to the internet so the router is definately working.
Hey, I have never seen a PSP but if its like an Xbox you have a configuration panel. Are you able to receive an IP and gateway? Do you have a notebook or some other wireless device that can connect to the wireless router?
My router shows me the DHCP settings available (IP, DNS etc) so i enter these into the PSP but it still won't let me connect. Inside the wireless router i have added the PSP's MAC address to access list and have enabled the access list and input all details (access list allowances) onto PSP but it still won't let me connect. It lets me connect when the DHCP is enabled on the wireless router but my internet cuts out within 10 mins of turning this on.
Hi, why don't you replace the wired router with the wireless and see if that works. So you will only have one router on the network.
