I have been reading lots of threads on this subject but have not been able to clearly understand how to enable XBMC to 'see' files on my PC. My setup is - DSL line - wireless modem - line to router - line to PC. PC also has wireless nic which talks to a WET11 bridge connected to my Xbox. In XMBC I can see the weather, the scrolling text at the bottom of the dash screen. In script I can connect to various sites. I have set up my PC to share certain folders that are visible from other PC's on the network. So my request for help is for someone to help me do the final required configuration to enable My XMBC to access files on my PC. Thanks.
hey.. i have my xbmc as my dashboard and i have it sharing files threw my network instead of ftping.. all i had to do was install netbui on all my network cards and make the router part of my network named "workgroup" and then share a folder on my computer and make it so other network users can change files and delete files.. and then go into xbmc and go to smb client and make that part of the network called "workgroup" and i can see the folder and send file to my pc by using my xbox.. its fast and easy tranfers.. sends as fast as your network can handle.. also can watch movies and play music from the xbox thats on the comp is pretty cool.. hope this helps
Thanks for your information. I have set up my Wireless NIC in my PC to have a static IP and assigned static ip to the SMB server in XBMC. I can now see my PC from XBMC SMB Workgroup but I can not see my Xbox from my PC!! Also, I can not see any other of my workgroup networked PC's from within XBMC! And since I change the IP to static I can no longer receive the weather or the scrolling text on the xbmc home page? Any help is appreciated!
